Pets and Poisons leaflet (BVA-AWF)

This leaflet, created collaboratively by the VPIS and the BSA-AWF, demonstrates to pet owners how to prevent poisoning in the home and what to do if they suspect their animal is poisoned.

Available from the British Veterinary Association Animal Welfare Foundation (BVA AWF). You can order these free from the BVA-AWF for your clients although they like you to make a donation to the charity to cover postage at least. These have proven very popular with pet owners.

Common household poisons and cats (FAB)

This leaflet was developed with the help of the VPIS as part of the FAB (Feline Advisory Bureau) range of leaflets for their cat friendly practice scheme. There is information on poisonous plants and poisoning in the home.

A collaborative document from the VPIS and the Dogs Trust listing poisonous plants, common household and garden substances.  This is available for download from the Dogs Trust website.

Animal specific information

The VPIS and the RSPCA have collaboratively produced information and advice on:

  • Substances poisonous to specific groups of animals.
  • What owners should do if they suspect their animal is poisoned.
  • How to poison proof the animals environment.

Although this information is not in leaflet form, it may still be of use and interest to animal owners.
